ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The brief was to convert the client’s existing deli into a brand new cafe bar with a clean modern aesthetic that would be flexible enough to operate both as a cafe in the day and a bar at night.

The cafe bar embraces the street through a canopied outdoor seating area. Full bi-folding glass doors allow the interior and exterior space to merge, enticing people in and adding to the street atmosphere.

The design was driven by the long, narrow nature of the space, resulting in a series of linear dynamics; the fixed bench seating, the single row of Carrara marble tables and a long, wall-mounted mirror all draw the eye and the customer to the light-filled rear extension. In the centre of the cafe sits the monolithic bar clad in dark blue glass, its reflective surface allowing the tight space to seem larger. Within this sits the serve-over counter and open kitchen, providing a stage for the theatrical preparation of food.
